The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a
W2 Professorship in Clinical and Experimental Veterinary Radiology
as of October 1st, 2027. Reference is made to § 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Duties:
You will represent the field of clinical and experimental veterinary radiology, in collaboration with the other professorships at the Small Animal Clinic, across the full spectrum of research, teaching and clinical services.
Your teaching load is 8 hours per week; the language of instruction is German. You will be expected to provide teaching in clinical radiology and radiophysics in accordance with the Veterinary Licensing Ordinance (TAppV), as well as interdisciplinary teaching and cross-sectional teaching.
Your research will focus on degenerative changes – particularly those affecting the skeletal system in small animals and other animal species – as well as regenerative processes.
You will be expected to plan and conduct self-initiated individual and collaborative research projects in the clinical and experimental fields of veterinary radiology both in animals and using animals as models for human diseases. Further success is expected in independent acquisition of external funding (preferably from the DFG, the BMFTR and/or the EU).
Your participation in the Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL) is expected.
You will be expected to collaborate across disciplines within the faculty and beyond, as well as to initiate and participate in research consortia at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU). In doing so, you will collaborate with researchers (m/f/d) both within and outside Europe and demonstrate a commitment to international engagement.
Your responsibilities will also include the transfer of scientific findings into economic and medical technology applications.
The integration of gender aspects into research and teaching is desirable.
Requirements:
Prerequisites for the position include a completed university degree in veterinary medicine, including a license to practice veterinary medicine, an outstanding doctoral degree, and additional academic achievements in the field of veterinary radiology (demonstrated, e.g., by a habilitation or in the form of relevant peer-reviewed publications in the research field outlined above). Pedagogical aptitude is also required.
Diplomate status of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (Dip. ECVDI) is required. An additional board certification as a recognized veterinary specialist (m/f/d) in the field of the professorship to be filled is an advantage.
You must have a recognized track record of research in the field of clinical and experimental veterinary radiology, as well as relevant experience and qualifications in the field of clinical research.
Your previous research activities should relate to the research priorities established at the Small Animal Clinic and within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, as well as to interdisciplinary research consortia at JLU.
Experience in the independent acquisition of external funding should be demonstrated.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
