Your start. Our information.

Through the metalworker apprenticeship specializing in metal design, with a focus on horseshoeing, you will become a specialist in the care of hooves of ungulates. Your work will focus on selecting and crafting horseshoes, as well as caring for and shoeing hooves. Treating hoof diseases and injuries, as well as fitting orthopedic shoes, are also part of your responsibilities. Following the apprenticeship, you will take a preparatory course for the state farrier exam (at your own expense).

During your apprenticeship, you’ll have many opportunities for personalized professional development and preparation for blacksmithing competitions. In addition, starting in your third year of apprenticeship, you can attend a state-level specialized class in metal construction and design in Baden-Württemberg. The curriculum is designed for metal designers and also includes drawing and blacksmithing instruction. After passing your journeyman’s examination, you can complete the preparatory course to become a state-certified farrier without having to complete a 2-year internship.
